City of Boroondara Library Service

The City of Boroondara is a metropolitan council in the inner-eastern suburbs of Melbourne which was formed in June 1994 by the amalgamation of the three former Cities of Camberwell, Hawthorn and Kew. It encompasses the suburbs of Ashburton, Balwyn, Burwood, Camberwell, Canterbury, Hawthorn, Kew and Surrey Hills.

The City of Boroondara Library Service image database currently contains over 3,500 photographs, postcards and slides from the Camberwell, Hawthorn and Kew Local History collections. Digitising and cataloguing of the existing collections is ongoing.

The images date from the mid 1800s until the present time and depict the growth and development of the area from days of earliest settlement through to the present, providing us with a visual history of the people, industry, transport, architecture, education, sport, fashion and culture of Boroondara.
