State Library of Queensland
Picture Queensland is a collection of digital images depicting the richness and diversity of Queensland’s heritage – people and places, events and happenings, past and present. Topics covered include Queensland’s personalities, industry and agriculture, architecture and buildings, fashion and pastimes, businesses and environment from 1859 to the present. We welcome comments and feedback on our images.
Picture Queensland is the State Library of Queensland’s collection of digitised images from the John Oxley Library. Images are selected for digitisation from a collection of approximately 1.5 million photographic resources – negatives, slides, original photographs, copy prints and original albums. The State Library of Queensland recognises that many cultural institutions have pictorial collections of significance to Queensland history and culture.
Picture Queensland images are contributed by a growing number of partners including Queensland public libraries and other cultural institutions. Partners have a shared interest not only in providing access to images but in preserving digital collections for current and future generations of Queenslanders.
The project is subsidised by the State Government through the Online Public Access in Libraries (OPAL) project. The State Library manages the service and provides a team of indexers, scanners and a full time support officer who delivers digitisation workshops throughout Queensland.
Picture Queensland welcomes new partners. For more information, contact:
