Sunshine Coast Libraries
Newly formed local government area, formerly Noosa Shire Council, Maroochy Shire Council and Caloundra City Councils.Located 100 kilometres north of the Queensland State capital of Brisbane. The Sunshine Coast, represents a diverse region of coastal and rural towns, and today has a population of approximately 300,000 people.
Historical photographs are a unique and valuable record of our heritage and the development of the local community, and are an obvious asset to any Local Studies Collection. Picture Sunshine Coast represents the online gateway to a significant collection of more than 3,000 historical photographs depicting the history of the Sunshine Coast region.
The photos are amazing in the diversity of their subject matter, ranging from the mundane to the extraordinary, from the historically significant to the common-place. They include floods, fires, councillors, farmers, hoteliers, beachgoers, train travellers, holiday makers, bullockies, timber getters and school children. In short, this collection is an invaluable local history resource that is in great demand for a wide range of uses by a similarly varied collection of library users.
