Logan City Council Libraries
Logan City is located in the heart of south-east Queensland, midway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. With a population of around 170,000 it is Queensland's third largest city. While it was declared a city only 25 years ago, its history is rich and dates back to exploration by Captain Patrick Logan in 1826.
From the early 1860s Logan was home to migrants from Germany, England and Ireland. Today Logan is home to people from over 160 cultures, making it one of the most diverse cities in Australia.
Logan City Council provides up to date facilities and services to its residents including five public libraries. These cater for all ages with a huge range of resources both hard copy and electronic as well as free Internet access. Logan Hyperdome Library has Australia's first drive through facility and the Charles Hamilton Special Needs Centre at Logan North Library caters for people with disabilities.
The Logan West Library houses the city's Local Studies Collection. It includes a range of material documenting the rich history of the Logan District. The photographic collection to date consists of almost 1600 images collected primarily from local residents.
Images dating from the 1870s, document landscapes and lifestyles in Logan. Subjects include housing, transport, flooding, farming practices, small businesses, family groups, council works, council buildings, and community activities.
Collection, cataloguing and digitization of our photographic collection are ongoing and donations are always welcome.
