Fraser Coast Regional Libraries is a contributor to Picture Queensland
The Fraser Coast is the gateway to the World Heritage listed Fraser Island, the Great Sandy Strait and the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. The Fraser Coast Regional Council oversees the management and development of one of Australia's fastest growing regions with a population of over 92,000 residents. It includes the popular tourism centre of Hervey Bay and the heritage city of Maryborough with its major manufacturing and engineering operations. The country areas include Tiaro, Howard and Torbanlea.
The Fraser Coast region has seven libraries: Hervey Bay Library, Hervey Bay Toy Library, Howard Library, Burrum Heads Library, John Anderson Library (Maryborough), Maryborough Toy Library and Special Needs Resource Centre Library and the Tom Gee Memorial Library and Community Centre.
The Local History Collections of the Hervey Bay and John Anderson Libraries offer a range of resources including:
• the Maryborough and Maryborough-Hervey Bay Chronicle newspaper on microfilm
• local district and school histories
• a large collection of Queensland Government Gazettes
• material on the Indigenous history of the area and
• photographic collections
