Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial Library

The Alfred Deakin Prime Ministerial Library (ADPML) at Deakin University recognises the contribution of the University's namesake, Alfred Deakin (1856-1919), to Australian society. Alfred Deakin made a significant contribution to the development of Australia's political and social institutions, took a leading role in the cause of Federation, and in the drafting of the Constitution for the Commonwealth of Australia.

The Library supports scholarship and research into Alfred Deakin, and the social, political and national context in which he lived. The collections include publications related to Alfred Deakin and the historical, social and political themes most closely connected with his life and work.

The ADPML also provides access to many of Deakin University Library's special collections. The Special Collections contain over 60,000 titles and are strongest in the area of nineteenth century publications, particularly architecture, Pacific missionaries, education, Papua New Guinea, travel, natural history, scientific expeditions, nutrition, cookery and women in the home. A significant collection of material relating to the South Western region of Victoria is also held.

The Digital Archive contains material sourced from both public and private domains. ADPML's own collection of photographs and realia relating to the life and times of Alfred Deakin is being digitised for inclusion, as are a growing number of images from the Special Collections and some externally sourced images, including many from the family of Alfred Deakin.
