The Australian National University

The Australian National University was established by Federal Parliament in 1946 with a mission to bring credit to the nation and to be one of the world’s great universities. The University is distinguished by its pursuit of excellence in all its endeavours, resulting in outstanding teaching and profound achievements in research.

The ANU's insitutional repository ANU DSpace aims to preserve and provide access to the University's research and teaching accomplishments. The repository commenced in March 2004 and is a broad-spectrum repository for the University's text, audio, video and image collections. Selected image collections from the repository are contributed to Picture Australia, including significant photographs from the Noel Butlin Archives and the University Archives collections.

  • The Noel Butlin Archives Centre houses one of the largest collections of business and trade union records in Australia. In addition to company and union records there are personal papers of individuals whose activities relate to Australian industry, the labour movement and public life.
  • The University Archives documents the unique history of the ANU.
