Australian National Maritime Museum
Pictures of ships in the Australian trade
The National Maritime Collection at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour, Sydney, represents a nation's diverse experiences and perceptions of its maritime past and present. This is the most recent of Australia's major collections, commenced in 1986 but quickly developing into a unique national resource. It ranges from historic vessels to maritime and Indigenous arts and crafts, tools and equipment, clothing and accessories, rare books, archives and important photographic collections.
The museum is building a collection that represents the breadth of Australia's maritime heritage. It complements the many excellent state and regional maritime museums and their collections which are a rich repository of Australia's maritime history. Our collection development policy identifies seven focus areas:
- Colonial Exploration
- Maritime Archaeology and Ship Technology
- Naval Service in Australia
- Sport and Leisure
- Economic and Commercial History
- Indigenous Communities
- Australia-USA Maritime Links
A schedule of charges for reproduction services is available.
